HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE (Is Your Community Ready?)

Today is the first day of the official Hurricane Season for those of is in the Northern Hemisphere. While August, September, and October are usually the most treacherous months, 97% of tropical activity happens between June 1 and November 30th (hence the currently defined Hurricane Season). Of the 40 tropical systems that have impacted our region in the past century, 75% have struck during the months of August and September.  The last severe hurricane to hit Massachusetts was Hurricane Bob in August 1991, which caused almost $1 billion in damage

Is your community prepared for this year’s season? If not, remember to check out the Before the Storm section of this site. To learn more about hurricanes and the hurricane season, head over to the Frequent Asked Question section of the National Hurricane Center’s website.
